- There were 258,404 reported casualties on Britain's roads during 2006, 5% down on 2005
- There were 3172 fatalities - 29 less than in 2005
- There were 169 child fatalities - 3 more than in 2005
- The combined number of children killed or seriously injured was 3294 - 178 fewer than in 2005
- Serious injuries were 27872 - Significantly down on 2005
- Pedal cyclist injuries were at 16,196
- 23,326 motorcyclists were injured, of which 599 were killed. This latter statistic represented an increase of 30 on 2005 statistics. 5,885 were seriously injured
